Eld. Dr. John Ang – Bukit Batok PC
Eld. Dr. John Ang is married to Helen and has a family of 1 daughter and 2 sons. He went into semi-retirement 8 years ago and into full retirement 4 years ago. Until January of 2023, he served as Session Clerk for 3 terms at Bukit Batok Presbyterian Church. Outside of the Presbyterian world, Eld John serves in Christian and Eye Care boards. Over the past 3 years, he has been attending classes at the East Asia School of Theology.
Eld. John came to faith in Secondary Two but it was only during his university days when he became committed to the Lord. He was much blessed by being discipled by the Melbourne Asian Navigators. There he learnt “To know Christ and to make Him known’. Discipleship is very much in his heart, and he finds joy in mentoring those who are F. A. T. (Faithful, Available & Teachable).
Eld. John’s wife is a counsellor, and one of the three children is still in university. He is thankful that they all know the Lord and continues to pray for them that their walk with the Lord will deepen through the years.
Apart from being in the EP ExCo, Eld John will serve in the Preachers & Personnel committee. Over the years, he has seen the increasing need for pastors in the Presbyterian world and he hopes that he will be able to contribute to the development of pastors through serving in this committee.
Eld. John’s life motto is “To know Him, to be like Him and to serve Him so as to glorify Him all the days of my life”.
Rev. Dr. Kelvin Chen – Prinsep Street PC
Rev. Kelvin Chen is an Associate Minister with Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church. He is responsible for Family Life Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Missions, and the Cell Group Ministry. He is currently a member of the EP Exco.
Kelvin and his wife Debbie (with their 3 children: Stuart, Faith, and Joshua) were missionaries with SIM (Serving in Mission; formerly known as the Sudan Interior Mission) from 2005 to 2017. He initially served with SIM in medical missions in Nigeria from 2005 – 2008, but God brought them back to Singapore to attend to their children’s educational needs. So, back in Singapore, Kelvin & Debbie enrolled to re-tool themselves at Singapore Bible College. He then served as the Deputy Regional Director for SIM East Asia from 2012 – 2017, with responsibility for the Philippines, West Malaysia as well as Singapore, while Debbie served as SIM East Asia’s Pastoral Care Consultant.
In 2017, Kelvin felt God calling him back to church ministry, especially with the renewed understanding that all of God’s missionaries, regardless of vocation, need to be well discipled to spiritual maturity in the local church, growing in the certainty of calling, growing in Christian character, and growing in ministry competency. Thus the local church has a vital role in nurturing future workers and is part of a continuous spectrum in world missions.
His favourite novel is J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings.

Eld. Kwan Chang Yew - Sembawang PC
My name is Kwan Chang Yew, I am a serving elder of Sembawang Presbyterian Church. I currently serve as the Treasurer in the church leadership.
I have recently stepped into and began my new term in the English Presbytery Executive Committee as an Exco member. At the same time, I also serve in the Preachers & Personnel Sub-committee.
I came to know Christ many years ago when my then-girlfriend (now wife) insisted then that I attend church. Back then, God showed His presence to me during a very challenging career and social period. Finally, I accepted Christ. By the time I stood for baptism, there was no doubt that Christ is the Saviour and Lord of my life.
At the home front, my family consists of my wife and myself, as well as our daughter and son (refer to our family photograph). In my free time, I do enjoy the occasional movie about military history and nature documentaries.
Glad to be serving Christ with you!
Eld. Phoa Luh Sy – Bethany PC–English Congregation
Elder Phoa Luh Sy worships with her family at Bethany Presbyterian Church English Congregation. She is married with three grown-up children. She loves to cook and bake for her family and friends. Luh Sy is a cat lover and it was her joy to welcome Yuki, a 10-mth old cat, to her home in October last year.
Luh Sy accepted Christ when she was 9 years old while studying in a mission school. Bethany Presbyterian Church English Congregation became her home church after a friend in her secondary school brought her to church. Currently, she serves in the Children Ministry and Bethany Share Group Ministry. When asked to share her favourite verse, Luh Sy quoted Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” It serves as a constant reminder to her that the strength to be and to serve must come from Christ.
With this conviction in her heart, Luh Sy joined the EP Express Committee last year and was instrumental in the release of the recent EP Express 2022 Advent Devotionals. This year, besides being a member of EP Exco, she will also be serving in the Preachers & Personnel Committee.
