EP Co-workers fellowship (2 July) - Godly Pastoral Leadership

GODLY PASTORAL LEADERSHIP WITH REV MALCOLM GILL AT EPCWF

We had our recent bimonthly English Presbytery Co-Workers’ Fellowship on July 2, Tuesday. With the usual start of a buffet lunch fellowship complete with the consequential beverage from True Way Presbyterian Church’s indispensable coffee machine, we were on to a wonderful time of learning together.

This month, the Equipping Committee had invited Rev Dr Malcolm Gill to share on Godly Pastoral Leadership by looking at the Apostle Paul’s model taken from 2 Corinthians 1 and 2. Rev Malcolm, who was in Sydney, Australia was of course, not in person with us in Singapore; but with the blessing of modern technology, we were able to learn from him through a live video call via Zoom.

The main idea of Rev Malcolm’s observation from the text was that “Godly pastoral leadership is built on integrity, marked by grace, truthful, Christ-focused, and loving.” Integrity calls us to practice what we preach, not providing a distinction between who we are and what we preach. A godly pastoral leadership marked by grace reminds us that the ministry is by God and not by ourselves. As leaders, we are to be truthful as we live by the truth. We are to be Christ-focused in recognising that our authority is in Him. Finally, we are to remain loving to the people God has called us to.

Rev Malcolm pointed out that the great shepherd and pastor, our Lord Jesus Christ, also set the example for us in His perfect pastoral leadership as he lived by integrity, grace, truth, Messianic-focused, and love. We were ultimately pointed back that God is more concerned with our character of being rather than what we do. And God has called us to be people of integrity, grace, truth, Christ-centredness and love.

With some discussions questions which we reflected in small groups, we lastly refreshed one another with prayers as we conclude the fellowship.
